Building Materials Concrete

About

IMI has a rich history that dates back to 1946 year when C.C. Skunk Irving began selling ready mix concrete and stone in Greenfield, Indiana. The post-war construction boom proved to be fertile ground for a building materials supplier in central Indiana. However, Skunk had a vision for growing the company beyond Greenfield. He believed that through hard work and innovation, IMI could become a leader in the building materials industry. Since then, IMI has grown to supply concrete to six states through our four regional operational centers and mines stone, sand and gravel throughout Indiana. Along the way, IMI has developed a number of forward-thinking processes that have helped our customers operate more effectively. This includes designing the front discharge mixer that is now a staple of the concrete industry. It also includes hundreds of concrete batch mixes and specialty admixtures that make pouring and finishing concrete quicker and easier.

Skunk also loved wildlife and the outdoors. In the 1950s, he began an exotic animal farm that became a destination for many school groups. People stop me all the time to comment on the time that they visited the Irving Farm. He also wanted to give back to children of the communities wherever IMI was operational. IMI has supplied everything from school supplies to ball diamonds to help the youth of our communities. This spirit of giving is an important legacy that carries forward in our corporate culture to this day.

We are committed to making our communities a better place to work and to live. I would encourage you to take a look at our Safety Pages, our Green Keys to Environmental Stewardship, and our Community Pages to learn more.

We're proud of our work. It is that pride that helps us strive to be better at what we do as a corporation. If you have questions, feel free to contact us.
